Connecting links

Connecting links for roller chains to European (B type, DIN 8187) and American standard (A type, ANSI) – for simplex and duplex chains, from small pitches (04B, 05B, 06B) to chains for agricultural and industrial machinery. The link is chosen by the chain designation, so simply search for the code stamped on your chain.

How to choose a connecting link

The link designation must match the chain. For example, a 06B-1 chain needs a 06B-1 link, and a duplex 06B-2 chain needs a 06B-2 link. A and B type links of the same pitch are not interchangeable, as they differ in width and pin diameter.

Connecting link or offset link

A connecting link joins the two ends of a chain with an even number of links. If the number of links is odd, or the chain needs to be shortened by half a link, an offset link is used.

How do I find the right connecting link for my chain?

Read the designation on the chain (e.g. 08B-1) and enter it in the site search. The connecting link must have the same designation as the chain.

What is the difference between a connecting link and an offset link?

A connecting link joins the two ends of a chain with an even number of links. An offset link is used when the chain has an odd number of links or needs to be shortened by half a link.

How should a spring clip connecting link be fitted?

The closed end of the spring clip should face the direction of chain travel, so the clip cannot come off during operation.

Can I use a B type link on an A type chain?

No. A and B types of the same pitch differ in width and pin diameter, so the link must be the same type as the chain.
