How to read oil designations

For engine oil, 15W40 indicates viscosity: the first number with the letter W shows how the oil flows when cold (lower number – easier cold start), and the second number shows viscosity at engine operating temperature. E3 and E7 are ACEA classes for heavy-duty diesel engines. For hydraulic oil, the number (46 or 68) indicates viscosity. The oil your machine requires is stated in the manufacturer's manual.

What is the difference between STOU and UTTO oil?

STOU is a universal tractor oil used for the engine, transmission and hydraulics. UTTO is intended only for the transmission, hydraulics and wet brakes, not for the engine. The oil your machine requires is stated in the manufacturer's manual.

What does 15W40 on engine oil mean?

It is the viscosity grade. The first number with the letter W shows how the oil flows when cold, and the second number shows viscosity at engine operating temperature. A 10W40 oil flows more easily at cold start than 15W40 or 20W50.

Which hydraulic oil should I choose, MG46 or MG68?

The number indicates the oil viscosity. MG68 is a thicker oil for heavier loads and warmer operating conditions, while MG46 is the most common choice for tractor and machinery hydraulics. Always use the viscosity specified by the machine manufacturer.

What is BISON Libra EP2 grease used for?

For lubricating bearings, joints, shafts and all grease nipple points on tractors, combines and implements. EP means it withstands high pressure, and the number 2 indicates its consistency.
